About the Project

The MedStar Urgent Care Navy Yard project, located in Southeast Washington, D.C., introduces approximately 3,800 SF of new patient-facing clinical space. Designed within a previously undeveloped “vanilla” retail unit, this urgent care center now features a welcoming waiting area, a reception desk, a lab/testing suite, X-ray facilities, and seven exam rooms. Additional staff and patient support areas help ensure streamlined operations within a relatively constrained building footprint.

CRGA Design served as the project lead, guiding the process from initial space planning through construction documentation, permitting, bidding, and construction administration. The firm worked closely with MedStar’s leadership and staff to meet programmatic requirements while adapting to the site’s complex existing conditions.

The MedStar Urgent Care Navy Yard center exemplifies the successful implementation of MedStar’s ambulatory facility design standards, developed by CRGA. The resulting environment is warm, welcoming, and equipped to handle a wide range of patient needs—all within a context that thoughtfully merges healthcare functionality with a setting traditionally reserved for retail uses.
