About the Project

CRGA Design recently completed the design of the Heart and Vascular Institute to be located on the Main Campus of the Medstar Union Memorial Hospital. The building features two floors of outpatient exam rooms and two new entrance vestibules allowing patients access to the structure on both the ground floor and the second-floor adjacent parking garage. The occupied areas of the building are approximately 10,000 square feet.

The project scope was a renovation to an existing active counseling center in three phases. Phase One was the construction of a new Behavioral health clinic across the street on the main campus relocating the program from the existing counseling center. The area of this renovation is 5,000 sq. ft. Phase Two addresses the main construction of the existing counseling center.

CRGA envisioned a comprehensive redesign featuring integration of a new first-floor exterior vestibule, facilitating direct access to the street and the adjacent parking garage’s first floor. Additionally, a second-floor vestibule will be accessible from the adjoining second-floor garage. The revamped space will include two vascular labs, two echo rooms, one procedure room, four vascular exam rooms, four EP exam rooms, and one device clinic workspace. Furthermore, the design incorporates four cardiology exam rooms, two cardiology workspaces, four cardiac surgery exam rooms, two cardiac exam workspaces, and four heart failure exam rooms. Accompanying these functional areas will be a heart failure workroom, a staff lounge equipped with staff lockers, and various supporting workspaces. The project encompasses waiting and reception areas on both floors, ensuring a seamless and efficient experience for patients and staff alike.

Phase Three is the renovation of an existing security dog training room providing a new IT closet servicing the Heart and Vascular Institute.
